Noise Machine

Bruno Kowalski

Noise Machine is a digital installation built for this edition of MEXE that proposes to explore how people use social networks in contemporary times, as a platform for political activity. Through a Twitter bot, the Noise Machine echoes the political demands and desires of different people on the internet, repeating their urgencies in a mechanical way. By emitting the muffled sounds of phrases that have lost their meaning in a private environment – the internet – the Machine asks us, among its metallic noises and aluminic repetitions: what does it mean to shout and demand in social networks?

*This project is developed in partnership with CIIE – Centro de Investigação e Intervenção Educativas/Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação da Universidade do Porto, Portugal.
